Change your password ​

Change your password from the Profile page. Changing it ends every other session.

Change your password ​

To change your password, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Profile.
  2. In the Change password section, in the Current password field, enter the password that you use now.
  3. In the New password field, enter a password of at least 10 characters.
  4. Click Change password.

Every other session is signed out, and the page says so. Your current browser stays signed in. For more information, see Sessions.

Set a password for an account created from GitHub ​

An account that was created from GitHub has no password until you set one. The section is called Set a password, and it asks only for the new password.

To set a password, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Profile.
  2. In the Set a password section, in the New password field, enter a password of at least 10 characters.
  3. Click Set password.

A password lets you sign in without GitHub, and you need one before you can disconnect GitHub. For more information, see Connected accounts.

Password rules ​

A password is 10 to 200 characters long, and it can't be the same as your email address or your handle.
